Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Qatar H E Jon Wilks said that the UK will be lifting visa requirements for Qatari citizens next year.
The Ambassador was speaking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of the inauguration of the British Food Week at Lulu Hypermarket, Abu Sidra yesterday.
He said that lifting the visa requirements for Qatari citizens is one of the major announcement made during recent visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the UK.
Highlighting the major announcements during visit of H H the Amir to the UK, he said:“The UK will be lifting visa requirements for Qatari citizens next year. Qatar agreed to invest £10bn in the UK. We have also agreed to support security and defence in Qatar during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.”
Explaining the visa procedures for visiting the UK, he said that there will be a new system across the whole world, Electronic Travel Authorisation.
Commenting on visit of H H the Amir to the UK, the Ambassador said:“I was with H H the Amir during his visit to the UK. This was a very successful visit. H H the Amir met with Her Majesty the Queen, Prince of Wales, British Prime Minister and a number of ministers.”
He said that during the visit a number of agreements were signed for developing economic, security and people-to-people relations.
“There is a good and positive atmosphere for increasing trade in particular in all sectors, but today we are focusing on food and beverages which is a very promising sector,” said the Ambassador.
Speaking about British Food Week which began yesterday at all outlets of Lulu Hypermarket, he said that the festival increases the sale of British products and interest of people in those products as well. The Ambassador said that following the feedback of visitors, Lulu brings new and more products from the UK.
“We are also looking forward to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 which will attract a huge number of visitors, so Lulu is positioning itself to provide an open and friendly environment to fans for shopping during the mega sporting event,” said the Ambassador.
