(MENAFN) The Chinese Foreign Ministry slammed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday, May 27th for "smearing the country" after he urged for steps to balance Beijing's rising global influence.
The previous day, Blinken delivered a 45-minute speech in which he expressed alarm about China's "intent to reshape the international order," in what some have termed the administration's most thorough stance on China to yet.
Blinken added, “China is the only country with both the intent to reshape the international order – and, increasingly, the economic, diplomatic, military and technological power to do it.”
“Beijing's vision would move us away from the universal values that have sustained so much of the world's progress over the past 75 years," he stated, urging the international community to maintain the status quo and approach ties with Beijing “with more realism.”
