A mortar shell detonated in Kunduz province, killing two children and injured another, according to the Taliban security officials in the province.
The details on the explosion of the mortar shell were released today, Saturday, 28th May, by the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency.
The explosion happened this morning in the Bagh Mir area of Kunduz province, according to Bakhtar news agency.
The news was confirmed by Abdullah Abedi, the spokesman for the Taliban chief of police in Kunduz, who said that children were playing with mortar shells, which exploded.
According to the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF), 16 children have been killed in Kabul and Balkh provinces alone in the last two days.
A series of explosions targeting passenger vehicles and a mosque killed 16 children.
Following the Taliban's regain of power, there has been an upsurge in child killings and fatalities and violence against children, whether directly or indirectly.
Last month, Pakistani airstrikes on residential areas in Kunar and Khost provinces killed 20 children.
In recent months, ordnance unexploded bullets, and remnants of war have also killed dozens of children, prompting UNICEF to demand for an immediate end to violence against children.
