(MENAFN) A novelist who is now known to be the first Libyan and the youngest writer, in his 30s, to earn the International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF), for his debut novel Bread on Uncle Milad's Table, Mohammed Alnaas. It was printed by Rasham, the novel was nominated as the winner of the USD50,000 award, at a celebrating event in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Alnaas is going to get funding as well for an English translation of his book. Bread on Uncle Milad's Table discovers gender parts as well as concepts of the male masculinity in a Libyan rural village.
Shukri Mabkhout, a Tunisian author who won the 2015 IPAF award as well as a chairman of judging panel 2022, complemented the work saying, “Its plethora of detail is deftly unified by a gripping narrative. This offers a deep and meticulous critique of prevailing concepts of masculinity and femininity and the division of work between men and women, and the effect of these on both a psychological and social level.”
