Exclusion of Mohamed Salah from winning grand prize

(MENAFN) Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Egypt has been ruled out of another major football accolade as Kevin De Bruyne won the Premier League Player of the Year title.

De Bruyne, a midfielder for Manchester City, has 15 goals and seven assists in the English Premier League the current season.

On Merseyside, though, Golden Boot leader Mohamed Salah has 22 goals and 13 assists, putting Jurgen Klopp's team in contention for the Premier League championship until the last day of the season on Sunday.

Nonetheless it wasn't enough to overcome De Bruyne, who won the award two years ago as well as kept City's stronghold on it after Ruben Dias won the previous year, with many believing that four goals in a 5-1 win against Wolves swung the vote in his favor.
