German President: Qatar to have ‘central role’ in Germany’s energy plan

(MENAFN) Qatar is going to have a “central role” in Germany’s new energy plan, in accord with German President Olaf Scholz.

During a joint news conference in Berlin with Qatar’s emir, Scholz stated both nations are going to boost their financial relations and energy collaboration.

Scholz went on to say “Germany will further develop its energy infrastructure so that we will be able to import sufficient amount of liquified natural gas by ships. Here in our strategy, Qatar plays a central role,” mentioning Berlin’s strategies to stop its dependence on Russian energy due to the Moscow’s attack on Ukraine.

Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani stated that Qatar has achieved big investments on liquified natural gas (LNG) recently and that they are pleased to add to the steadiness of energy markets.

He also stressed that his country is going to lift its LNG production in next years, and is going to be in a position to boost its supply.

He continued “Whatever we can provide for energy security in Europe, even during this period, we will make sure that we can provide.”
