Arabian Horses & The Desert Auction On May 31 At Katara

Doha: AlBahie is set to auction the artwork by Peter Upton entitled“Arabian Horses & the Desert on May 31 at Katara Building 22C at 7pm. 

The auction house disclosed that the artwork is from an important private collection of the renowned British artist, historian and author best known for his paintings depicting Arabian horses and desert scenes. Meanwhile, the viewing has started yesterday and will continue until the date of the auction.

Thirty-two of Upton's paintings will be auctioned. Some of the works include: Mare and Foal at the Ten, Chestnut Mare and Saker Falcon, Mares and Foals, Arabs Among the Cork Oaks, Keeping up with the Mum, Sakers and Coffee, What a Trot - Sarra and Foal, Trotting Mare with Tent and Falcons, Three Mares Grazing, and Away They Go - Three Mares, Tails Up.

Most of his artworks are oil on canvas, while some are oil on board, and prices start from US$2,600 or QR9,490. All paintings have a Certificate of Authenticity, and some also is accompanied by a signed hand written note by Upton.

Currency for the auction will be conducted in US dollars while the payment will be requested in Qatari Riyal.

Upton is an expert and a highly acclaimed international judge of Arab Horses and has been the president of the Arab Horse Society of Britain twice. He is also a founding member of the Arabian Horse Historical Association and regularly lectures around the world. 

He has penned many articles for international magazines and has published several books on Arabian horses, including 'The Arab Horse', 'Desert Heritage, An Artist's Collection of Blunt's Desert Horses', 'The Classic Arab Horse, A Complete Record of the Arab Horse Imported into Britain from the Desert of Arabia from the 1830s',

'Drinkers of the Wind: Mystery, History and Magic', and 'Out of the Desert: The Influence of the Arab Horse on the Light Horse and Native Pony Breeds of Britain'.

Upton co-authored 'Royal Heritage – The Story of Jordan's Arab Horses' with HRH Princess Alia Al Hussein.
