A Qatari delegation from the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post) participated in the annual meeting of the board of Universal Postal Union's (UPU) Council of Administration (CA), held at the UPU headquarters in Berne, Switzerland. It will conclude today.

Qatar is participating in the meeting as a board member of the CA, which consists of 41 member countries.

The meeting includes discussions about matters related to different Committees under the CA in addition to other related issues, as it ensures the continuity of the UPU's work between the Universal Postal Congresses, which convenes every four years, supervises its activities and studies regulatory, administrative, legislative, and legal issues.

The CA can also take measures it considers necessary to resolve urgent issues.

On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation chaired the meeting of the Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance Committee under the CA, which was held yesterday.

The meeting's agenda included discussions about various issues related to the Committee and presentations about different subjects, like the UPU Global development cooperation strategy for 2022-2025.

The Committee considers and implements Universal Postal Congress decisions concerning technical cooperation among member countries.

Through these meetings, the State of Qatar contributes to shaping the future of the global postal sector for the better, which will have a direct effect on the development of the postal sector in Qatar and other local sectors associated with postal services.

It is worth mentioning that Qatar won last year a seat on the board of the UPU's CA and won the co-chair of the Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance Committee with the Republic of Belarus, which resulted from the elections conducted at the conclusion of the 27th Universal Postal Congress held in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.

The UPU is a United Nations specialised agency and one of the world's oldest international organisations.

The UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players and has 192 member countries. Qatar has been a member of the UPU since 1969.
