(MENAFN) On Wednesday, the Turkish leader stated that as a NATO associate, Turkey is not going to approve to any expansion that might leave the military alliance less protected, nor damage its own safety, putting out its worries about Finland and Sweden’s push for NATO participation after the Ukraine conflict.
Leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated to the parliamentary group meeting of Turkey’s Justice and Development (AK) Party in the capital Ankara that "We expect our allies to understand our sensitivities (on counter-terror efforts), to show respect and to provide support if possible."
"We are one of the top countries that actively support the activities of the (NATO) alliance, but this does not mean we will agree to every proposal without question," the leader stated, adding that NATO expansion can operate if Turkey’s feelings are regarded.
Erdogan highlighted Turkey’s need to secure its borders from terror units.
