Putin: EU energy strategy commits economic suicide

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Western nations' energy inflation must be blamed on their own faults, not on Russia. Putin claims that the European Union is committing economic suicide by attempting to wean itself from Russian energy resources.

During a video conference on the oil industry, he mentioned, “such an economic auto-da-fé, suicide is, of course, an internal affair of European countries. We must act pragmatically, proceed primarily from our own economic interests,”

Putin claims that Europe understands that it cannot entirely abandon Russian energy supplies just yet. Nonetheless, they have given themselves such a responsibility, “without paying any attention to the damage that they have already caused to their own economy.”
