(MENAFN) Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, shocked Russia for closing down the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)/Radio's Moscow office as well as for withdrawing the press eminences and visas of reporters.
Trudeau announced, "Obviously the truth, responsible journalism, sharing what's actually going on with citizens is a deep threat to Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and his illegal war and his authoritarian tendencies."
Maria Zakharova, Moscow Foreign Ministry spokesperson, commented that it is a revengeful act since Canada prohibited the Russia Today (RT) web page. Meanwhile, Trudeau stated that the act was offensive and inadmissible and Putin was triggered by his fear of true journalism.
Trudeau publicized, "It's unfortunate, but not surprising, that he's trying to shut down strong journalistic institutions.” Only part of the CBC is funded by the Canadian regimen. It had been given USD1.4 billion in the last year, however, it does not commit to Ottawa, as noted by Brodie Fenlon, the editor in chief of the CBC News. He tweeted, "Our journalism is completely independent of the Canadian government and we are saddened to see the Russian government conflate the two."
