Executives of construction and logistical firms have demanded that the Taliban pay for the projects.
Many of these construction projects were contracted and built by the previous administration, while others were discontinued once the Taliban took power.
The Taliban are owing roughly 60 billion Afghanis, according to Ahmad Farid Tatar, president of the Afghan Construction and Logistics Companies Association, who spoke at a meeting in Kandahar province.
He expressed concern about project funds being frozen, claiming that several projects had been shut down and thousands of workers had lost their jobs as a result.
Tatar claims that the money for these projects belongs to millions of citizens, not the Taliban.
He further stated that if the Taliban did not release the funding, construction corporations would be shut down.
Tatar's allegation was supported by Haji Ahmad Mako, chairman of the Kandahar Construction Companies Association, who said that all projects undertaken by the previous government have now been halted.
Mako further said that these companies have not paid their employees for months and that unless the Taliban releases their funds, they will be unable to pay their employees.
The meeting was also attended by the Taliban's appointed governor for Kandahar province.
