Doha: Qatar's homegrown institute for research and graduate studies, Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) celebrated academic achievements of the Class 2022 demonstrating its continuous growth to keep a pace with the country's future needs.
The Class of 2022 graduated 215 students in the presence of the Speaker of Shura Council H E Hassan bin Abdulla Al Ghanim, Minister of Education and Higher Education H E Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation (QF) and Chairperson of HBKU's Board of Trustees H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani and other dignitaries, at Multaqa in education City yesterday.
The graduates represented 47 countries; 52 are Qataris and 144 are female from six colleges across the university.
HBKU President, Dr. Ahmad M Hasnah said:“Since its inception, the challenges faced by Qatar in its public and private sectors have been at the core of HBKU's educational and research vision. Today, the university is graduating a new cohort of its students to be active and supportive of the development and growth of their countries. It always seeks to build bridges of cooperation with the various sectors in the country. Today, you are our ambassadors, and we are sure that you will increase the number and solidity of these bridges.”
The newest HBKU graduates represent a wide range of disciplines, including International Economic and Business Law, International Law and Foreign Affairs, Applied Islamic Ethics, Audiovisual Translation, Translation Studies, Digital Humanities and Societies, Public Policy, Data Analytics in Health Management, Cybersecurity, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Sport and Entertainment Management, Sustainable Energy, and Sustainable Environment. Other disciplines are Genomics and Precision Medicine, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, and Exercise Science.
At present the student population at HBKU is 850 and among them 20% are international students. The HBKU alumni community is now reaching close to 1,500.
All graduates have taken different range of careers and reached notable achievements demonstrate HBKU's impact in building capacities addressing areas of national and global importance, Vice President for Student Affairs at HBKU, Dr. Maryam Al Mannai told The Peninsula.
“We are proud of our graduates and they already have success stories. Our graduates well equipped with knowledge and skills to meet the address the challenges of Qatar and beyond. About 70 to 80 percent of them are already employed with the best institutions and firms,” she said.
Research-intensive, interdisciplinary programs foster at HBKU an entrepreneurial mindset and prepare graduates with diverse world views to shape big ideas into novel solutions for positive, global impact.
Abdul Kawiyu Aswad Sualihu, a Graduate of College of Humanities and Social Sciences from Gana graduated with a MA in Digital Humanities and Societies and said that he gained exceptional experience during his study period in HBKU.
“I came from Gana to join the HBKU because of the high caliber of education it has to offer. The faculty and facilities were amazing,” he said indicating that he would continue to work and study in Qatar.
While, Sabika Shaban graduated with a Master of Arts in Islam and Global Affairs from College of Islamic Studies said the program provided her an opportunity to analyze the place of Islam in the context of global affairs, and the interconnected challenges facing global Muslim communities from an interdisciplinary perspective.
