Lebanon's local elections start today


(MENAFN) The national elections in Lebanon began on Sunday, with more than 3.91 million people casting ballots for the first time since the popular demonstrations three years ago.

As of 7:00 a.m. regional time, election centers in 15 constituencies around the nation opened their doors.

According to the Interior Ministry, 718 people are competing for the 128-seat parliament, and the election age is 21.

The Lebanese army claimed on Saturday that they have increased security in several areas of the nation, particularly in Beirut. Moreover, Lebanon's most recent elections were held on May 6, 2018, with a 49 percent turnout.
