QRCS And KRCS Provide Cancer Medicine For Health Ministry In Gaza

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) said that the process to provide medications for patients with cancer in the Gaza Strip, as part of the project supported by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), is continuing. It includes 19 types of chemotherapy, hormonal, and analgesic drugs are procured.

A total of 8,644 male and female patients in the Gaza Strip benefit from the project, at a total cost of USD800,000, of which USD500,000 was provided by the KRCS with the support of the Kuwait Finance House (KFH), and USD300,000 was provided by the QRCS.

Amid difficult humanitarian and health conditions in Gaza, the project would help to alleviate the suffering of 8,644 patients, ease the burden on health service providers at hospitals, and reduce referrals for treatment abroad.

Assistant Director-General of Pharmacy at the Ministry of Health (MoH) of Gaza Dr. Zikri Abu Qamar praised QRCSs humanitarian interventions to support the health sector at a time there is a persistent shortage in medical supplies for cancer, saying“last year, the shortage was 53%”.

“Thanks to cancer medical supplies from international organisations in Gaza, mainly QRCS and KRCS, the rate was down to 44%, with much-needed drugs and pain relievers secured to ensure the continuity of life-saving medical services for the patients,” Qamar added.
