Brazilian Ministry Mission To Visit Jordan, Egypt, Morocco

São Paulo – A delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply (MAPA) will depart from Brazil this Thursday (5), heading to Jordan , Egypt , and Morocco . The Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) also participates in the mission. Led by Minister Marcos Montes, the group will meet with representatives of private companies and government authorities to discuss the supply of fertilizers and the expansion of investments in Brazil. The meetings will also reaffirm the target markets for Brazilian products. Pictured above, Egypt's capital city, Cairo.

On a note, the MAPA informed in Jordan the main topic would be the supply of potassium-based fertilizers . In Egypt, the focus will be on nitrogen, and in Morocco, on phosphate. The return to Brazil is scheduled for May 14.“We will also take advantage of the mission to consolidate our agribusiness products in the three countries, so I believe the trip will be successful,” said the minister upon boarding.

Schedule

The minister's schedule in Jordan , to begin on May 7, includes meetings with heads of major potassium-producing companies, such as the Arab Potash Company (APC), which produces over 2.4 million tonnes per year, and the Jordan Phosphate Mining Company (JPMC), with a production capacity over seven million tonnes per year. There are also plans for meetings between minister Marcos Montes and Jordan's ministers of Agriculture, Khaled Musa Henefat, and Industry, Trade and Supply, Youssef Al-Shamal.

On May 9, the delegation will arrive in Cairo, Egypt , where the Brazilian minister expects to meet with the deputy minister of Agriculture, Moustafa El Sayeed, and the minister of Supply, Aly Al Moselhy. Executives from the MAPA will also participate in the Brazil – Egypt Forum: Opportunities in Bilateral Trade, held by the ABCC . Meetings with Egypt's fertilizer and animal protein sector representatives are also expected.

The delegation will arrive in Morocco on May 12. A meeting with the kingdom's minister of Agriculture, Mohammed Sadiki, is planned, and a visit to the Jorf Lasfar plant of the Office Chérifien des Phosphates (OCP) company. The state-owned company is currently the leading supplier of phosphorus to Brazil.

The Ministry stressed Morocco is the world's second-largest producer of phosphate fertilizers , accounting for about 17% of global production. In 2021, Brazil imported over USD 1.6 billion in fertilizers from Morocco.
