DFI announces selection mechanism for“10th Ajyal Film” entries

The Doha Film Institute (DFI) announced the mechanism of action that will be followed in the subsequent stage of inviting the works participating in the Ajyal Festival 2022. Reported local Arbic daily Arrayah.
After it had recently revealed the details of the next edition of the film festival and set conditions for accepting the films scheduled to be shown under the title“The Jury Experience” during the period From 1 to 8 October. The Institute explained that the festival's programmers will notify filmmakers in early August, and they may be asked to talk about their films remotely via some digital platforms during the festival. Most correspondence will be done by e-mail. Regarding the requirements and information related to the selected films, DFI clarified that the person whose film will be accepted must fulfill some requirements immediately after accepting the official invitation sent to him by the festival.
The holder of the rights to the film must allow the festival and (the institute) to screen it during the festival, while ensuring that it possesses the necessary rights to do so. Bearing in mind that once the official invitation to the festival is accepted and the final screening copy is submitted, the applicant cannot modify or change the copy of the film without a prior agreement between the presenter and the festival committee. Besides, the festival has the right to exclude the film from the programme.
It was also revealed that the“Made in Qatar” competition is not going to be held this year. As all Qatari films will be eligible to participate in the main competition for Ajyal (in the sections of Mohaq, Hilal and Badr) in the 2022 special session. All selected films will be automatically entered into the upcoming“Made in Qatar” programme, which will return in 2023. The films participating in the Ajyal Competition will be divided into two categories: Ajyal Competition (from 1 to 8 October). It includes the Feature Film Competition that shows a group of feature films and documentaries from all over the world. The Short Film Competition that presents short fiction and documentary films from all over the world, in addition to the sections of the Ajyal 2022 competition, which includes“Mahaq” which is presented to judges from 8 to 12 years old, and has two feature film competitions and short (documentary and fiction). Hilal is to be presented for judges from 13 to 17 years old, and it has two long and short films (documentary and fiction). Badr is to be presented for judges from 18 to 25 years old, and has two long and short films (documentary and fiction).
The Ajyal Film Festival 2022 decided that the winners of the Ajyal Film Festival competitions will be awarded a film development award through the support of the Ajyal Film Fund. Development awards are presented for feature and documentary film projects. The development awards will be as follows: The Mahaq Prize for Best Short Film, $5,000, the Mahaq Prize for Best Long Film, $15,000, the Hilal Prize for Best Short Film, $5,000, and Hilal Prize for Best Long Film, $15,000. The Badr Prize for Best Short Film $5,000 and the Badr Prize for Best Long Film of $5,000.
The participation will continue to be open for filmmakers in the festival, which has begun receiving applications from participants, until midnight 21July. Film owners will be informed of the status of their submissions on August 25.
