Google declares: its Equiano underwater cable reaches in Togo

(MENAFN) On Friday, Google stated that its Equiano underwater cable has arrived in Togo, the first nation in West Africa to launch commercial 5G portable facilities.

Equiano is one of Alphabet's USD1 billion subsea internet initiative, which aims to improve Africa's digital capabilities.

Google Africa’s managing director Nitin Gajria declared that “As 300 million people come online in Africa over the next five years, the Equiano cable is part of our ongoing commitment … expanding opportunity and improving connectivity in order to help bring the benefits of technology to more Africans.”

According to a financial impact study completed by Africa Practice and Genesis Analytics, Equiano is predicted to result in quicker internet speeds, enhanced user experience, and lower internet rates in Togo.
