Ambassador thanks Qatar for support to Indian diaspora

Indian Ambassador Dr. Deepak Mittal hosted a reception at the Ritz Carlton Doha on Wednesday to mark the 73rd Republic Day of India.

Minister of Municipality H E Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, Minister of Labour H E Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie and Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H E Ambassador Yusif Ibrahim Fakro attended the event.

Several Qatari dignitaries, members of the diplomatic corps, businessmen and Indian community members were present.

The Ambassador thanked the Ministers for their pro-active role in strengthening relations between India and Qatar.

He said that this year's Republic Day has a special meaning as the Indians around the world rejoice in India's transformational journey of 75 years since independence.

Today Indians are celebrating 'New India' - world's largest democracy,third-largest global economy, fast emerging innovation capital of the world - that is confident with citizens becoming active stakeholders in in the country's success.

Detailing the achievements of India last year, he said: 'On the economic front, India has emerged as one of the fastest-growing major economies in the world with a growth rate of 8.4 percent over the past year. The predictions for 2022 are even better.Far reaching economic reforms over the past year, including in IT, telecom, taxation, labour sectors, among others have promoted Ease of Doing Business and minimised the regulatory burden'.

The Ambassador said that today India is one of the leading destinations of FDI globally.

The country's startup ecosystem is the third largest in the world with over 60,000 registered start-ups and over 80 unicorns.

Some 42 new unicorns emerged in India last year. India is committed to becoming partner in the world in global supply chain

Globally, India continues to be at the forefront of contributing to international policies reflecting the country's strong belief in 'Vasudhaiva Kudumbakam' or the World is One Family, India's supply of medicines and vaccines to many countries during the COVID-19 pandemic is a manifestation of India's vision of One Earth, One Health.

Today, India is the world's third largest pharma producer, it is the Pharmacy of the World.

The Ambassador expressed his thanks to H H the Amir, H H the Father Amir and the government of Qatar for their continued patronage and support to the significant Indian community here.

He noted that India's relationship with Qatar had grown from strength to strength over the past year and both countries were expanding the spectrum of bilateral cooperation to new frontiers such as Artificial Intelligence and aerospace, while deepening existing partnerships such as energy.

He also said that both countries were working together for celebrating the 50 years of the establishment of full diplomatic relations in 2023.

Commending the contributions of the Indian community, especially during the pandemic, the Ambassador said that the Indian diaspora here is eagerly looking forward to support the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and to ensure its successful conduct.

A scintillating cultural performance by the Indian community members and a sand-art video presentation depicting India's journey in the last seven decades and celebrating India's special and historical relationship with Qatar were displayed.
