Team Alpha of DPS-Modern Indian School was declared 'The Biggest Quidnunc!' at the recently held inter-school quiz contest. Organised by Infotainment Factree and targeting Grade 7 to 12 students across communities and curricula in Qatar, invites for 'The Biggest Quidnunc!' were sent to more than 40 schools. The final of the event was organised on the Zoom platform earlier this month. Team Alpha, represented by Mithun Ramesh Babu and Tejaswi Manoj, took a big lead in the first round, It's Anyboy's Fame, answering five out of the six questions at stake. Though it couldn't keep up the same momentum in the next five rounds, the last one, Brute Force, where teams had to play to their strengths choosing their favourite subjects and points they wanted to play for, again worked wonders for Alpha, giving them enough points to emerge victorious.
Team Noble 22 from Noble International School, represented by Aayan Shariff and Sabarish Mohandas, did constantly well from the second round, Bulls Eye, but it was not enough for the lead they had already conceded and had to be content with the first runner-up position.
The all-brothers team of Trial by Trivia from Birla Public School picked up really well with the third round, Playing From The Gallery, to end up being the second runner-up. The team was represented by Rayan Yusuf and Adyan Yusuf.
MES XI from MES Indian School, represented by Chris Simone Denny and Afifa Bint Mustafa, got the 'People Choice Award', having
received maximum 'Likes' on their team's profile on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter combined, an innovative feature to add to the glam-quotient of the event. The other two teams to make it to the final were Nakis (represented by Sophia Ali and Shyma Rizvi of Noor Al Khaleej International School) and the Backbenchers (represented by Amey Amol Desai and Gurshaan Singh of Rajagiri Public School).
Taking a short break between the fifth round, Public Jaanti Hai, and the sixth round, Sound of Music (audio), was a panel discussion on 'The Art of Quizzing'. The expert panel of quiz veterans, including Neelanshu Jamuar (head of Treasury and Investment Operations at a Qatar-based bank), Deepak Taneja (DGM at Indian Oil Corporation Limited), Amreshwar Sati (COO at iE3 Innovations) and Kaushik Bhattacharya (creative director at Adfactors), stressed the need for entertainment and engagements in all form of learning, and quizzing in particular. The panel took various questions from the audience and urged students to look beyond textbooks to add to their knowledge repositories.
'The Biggest Quidnunc!' was conceived by Shafqat Nabi, a brand and fashion management professional and project lead at Infotainment Factree. Nabi, who took the role of quizmaster, consciously deviated from a“boring question-answer session” and introduced innovative fun-filled features, something not often seen in this part of the world.
Questions were well crafted for participants and audience, keeping them thoroughly engrossed. In one question, participants were asked to identify the voice of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, delivering a speech in French at Elysee Palace. In another audio, it was Donald Trump and Barack Obama singing 'Barbie Girl' by Aqua. The audience was left amazed by the kind of trivia shared by the quizmaster. By the way the questions were weaved, the answers sounded more interesting than the questions themselves.
“The idea was to structure the event beyond a normal contest so as to act as a mentoring session. The quizmaster spent extra time on various questions, teaching participants how to work out answers from given clues, especially when they do not have enough information. The audience, especially parents and children, appreciated this effort,” said Aisha Jamal, Wizard of Lightbulb Moments at the initiative.
