Turkey: Istanbul Airport faces temporary shutdown due to snowstorm


(MENAFN) Turkey’s civilian aviation body declared, mega-Istanbul Airport partially reinitiated flights following a one-day break because of a snowstorm in Istanbul.

A tweet by the Civil Aviation Directorate General included, “After having received parking space approval, Istanbul Airport runway 18/36 was opened to traffic on Tuesday at 12 (noon) local time (09.00 GMT), with priority for divert flights.”

Starting Monday, Jan. 24 Istanbul Airport stopped air flights following a snowstorm in the city, which led to closing shopping centers and troubling traffic.

National flag firm Turkish Airlines declared at an early time that it stopped air flights to and from Istanbul Airport until Wednesday midnight (GMT2100).
