(MENAFN) On Monday, NATO chief reported that the military union is debating if they should assign extra battle numbers in southeastern Europe, during concerns of Russia’s military build-up near Ukraine.
While presenting at a media briefing, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg conformed NATO is thinking about increasing its existence in the union’s east, which “includes the deployment of additional NATO battle groups” in Poland and southeastern Europe.
He mentioned together with Pekka Haavisto and the foreign ministers of Finland and Sweden Ann Linde, “NATO is a defensive alliance which does not threaten Russia or any other country. But we will always do what is necessary to protect and defend all our allies.” However, Finland and Sweden aren’t in the union but collaborate with it in military collaboration.
