UN announces effects of school closures in pandemic

(MENAFN) UNICEF stated the damage to children’s teaching in the global epidemic is difficult to be balanced, as many youths are losing “basic numeracy and literacy skills” because of school closing.

On the words of UNICEF Chief of Education Robert Jenkins “Quite simply, we are looking at a nearly insurmountable scale of loss to children’s schooling.”

Jenkins said “While the disruptions to learning must end, just reopening schools is not enough. Students need intensive support to recover lost education,” noting that schools “must also go beyond places of learning to rebuild children’s mental and physical health, social development and nutrition.”
