Germany’s stance with Russia sparks global controversy

(MENAFN) Germany was harshly criticized for taking a cautious stance with Russia, following its marine chief spurred a political row with commentary on Ukraine and Crimea.

The Ukrainian ambassador Andrij Melnyk said that the chief’s commentary was similar to “German arrogance and megalomania,” and asked the German government to alter its foreign policy.

On Sunday, the chief reported on Twitter, “Though Ukraine welcomes the timely resignation of the Inspector of Navy Kay-Achim Schoenbach, this step is not sufficient to restore full trust in German politics. The Government has to change its course towards Kyiv.”

Vice Admiral Kai-Achim Schoenbach caused global disagreements in the weekend following his provocative commentary in a think-tank conference, where he stated that Russia doesn’t intend to invade Ukraine and the president of Russia must be respected.
