Qatar - TotalEnergies & Ministry of Municipality join hands for Tree Planting

TotalEnergies staff recently participated in a tree planting event, with Ministry of Municipality in support of Qatar's efforts towards environmental sustainability. 

The event, which took place at Al Legtaifiya Park in West Bay, comes as Qatar has pledged to plant one million trees around the country before the launch of the FIFA World Cup in 2022, which will be the first carbon-neutral tournament ever organized. 

“We are delighted to work with the Ministry of Municipality for this initiative to enrich the biodiversity in Qatar through actions such as planting trees, that contribute to reducing emissions and to make the FIFA World Cup 2022 Net Zero.” said Matthieu Bouyer, Managing Director TotalEnergies EP Qatar and Country Chair.“Sustainability is at the heart of our strategy and operations, and this initiative is in line with our biodiversity and climate CSR pillar. We are conducting many initiatives and research programs in Qatar in multiple domains such as marine life preservation, emission reductions, and carbon capture.' 

Khaled Ahmed Al-Sindi, Head of Projects Department at the Public Parks Department at the Ministry of Municipality said during the event“The Ministry of Municipality is happy to work on these projects with recognized partners such as TotalEnergies, who are helping contribute to local development, and to reach the target of planting 1 million trees. The protection and preservation of the environment is everyone's social responsibility, and we hope to bring all members of the society together to help us achieve our goal”.

TotalEnergies has taken a focus on natural ecosystems as part of their priority projects towards a successful transition towards low carbon emission. TotalEnergies in Qatar is currently involved in various research projects for Carbon, Capture Utilisation and Storage (CCUS), the advancement of CO2 Utilization & Low Carbon Processes, as well as societal initiatives which include the sponsorship of a solar powered Energy Playground at the National Museum of Qatar in partnership with Qatar Museum.
