(MENAFN) Academics from Cardiff University and Sapienza University of Rome drew a relationship between the speed of people’s internet and their volunteering activities in the society, in addition to their participation in politics and different kinds of social interaction.
Fabio Sabatini, a co-author of the research, which was issued in Journal of Public Economics included: “We observed that civic participation and the form of engagement in the activities of voluntary organisations and political participation declined with proximity to the network.”
For example, political participation dropped by 19 percent for every 1.8 kilometers they are closer to individuals living in domestic telecommunications exchange center, providing them with faster internet usage.
