PAKISTAN'S iconic music series, which is loved and admired across borders, has been released after a gap of one year. It is far from being a disappointment. We've all enjoyed brilliant music from Coke Studio Pakistan which brings to us an amalgamation of folk and spiritual tunes that satiate our hunger for good music.

This year, under the visionary producer Xulfi Jabbar Khan, the season has come to make a statement. It's today's music but not the way mass culture treats music. Some critics, albeit a minority, have felt that the music is too commercial. However, it seems like the season is trying to enter the mainstream without compromising on the pure passion for soulful music.

Here is the line up of songs that you must check out:

Tu Jhoom

The song that broke the internet with its release and made fans say that the season was worth the wait. This brilliant musical gift has been sung by Abida Parveen and Naseebo Lal. The poetry in the song is impeccable.

Not only is the song a treat to the ears, the video too is a visual delight. The video has been produced and curated by Xulfi and the cinematography has been done by Ahsan Raza.

The song made it to the internet like a sensation. Kashmiri music aficionados also pitched in to appreciate their craze for classics like Abida Parveen ji.

RJ Vijdan who outsources music to masses here through radio succinctly summarised everyone's feelings in this tweet:

“Naseebo Lal's smile will tell you she is happy to have found a perfect place for all those high notes, finally. Abida Parveen takes you to a place you don't want to return from. #cokestudio14

..saariyan khushiyan miljawan te pichay ki reh Jana ?”

Kana Yari

For those who have loved Coke Studio Pakistan for 14 years now,“Tu Jhoom” was a treat but not an expected one. It met their expectations and in fact managed to impress everyone beyond their expectations.

However, Kana Yari, another track that music aficionados haven't been able to dodge, is for those who do not mind the mainstream magic that the season is attempting to pull-off.

This is where we understand what was meant by Xulfi when he said that he intended to“transcend boundaries” as he took the reins of Coke Studio from Rohail Hyatt.

At first, one gets the familiar hit of culture and folk as this song gets into our system. However, soon we're thrown off (pleasantly) by the modern and almost futuristic notes of this masterpiece.

Kana Yaari features Kaifi, folk singer Abdul Wahab Bugti, Eva B and Kaifi Khalil. From the Tambura of Bugti to the Baloch pop of Eva B, this song just hits you at the right spot!

Many in Kashmir agree:“#KanaYaari (as we say in Kashmir) chu tufaanuk.Undoubtedly @cokestudio's most ambitious season”

Sajan Das Na

Already released on Spotify India, this song has Atif Aslam return with Momina Mostehasan. The song is quirky and modern. The feels are very pop x edm. It's a fun and groovy song. Unlike the usual peppy music, this one has at least attempted to keep some semblance of attachment with the coke studio flavour.

However, listeners are conflicted. With Atif Aslam's fan following, it seems that the song left some listeners underwhelmed.

Shuru Karein

As if variety wasn't enough, this song satiates your hunger for music that blows your mind away! The soulful music by Romail Ali Khan is a breath of fresh air.

It is also available on Spotify India.
