President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has attended the inauguration of a statue to philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev in Baku on January 18, Trend reports.

A statue to Taghiyev was erected in a square in front of the Icherisheher metro station. The height of the monument is 2.5 meters.

The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and the Baku City Executive Power held an open sculpture competition in 2019 to pick the winner. Azerbaijani People's Artist Khanlar Ahmadov was selected.

Correspondents of Trend TV visited the territory where the statue to Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev was erected and asked about the impressions of the residents of the capital.
