Amman, Jan 16 (Petra) -- The Cabinet Sunday approved an amendment to the penalty code of 2022 that is aimed at enhancing the rule of law and upholding societal peace by intensifying the penalties of crimes that would impact 'societal security.'
The amendments also promote non-custodial measures and make them easier to implement. They would leave it for the court to go for the maximum penalty.
Also, they would intensify penalties against those who would be found guilty of breaching their commitments in the contracts signed with the government or with public administrations for the purpose of generating income or causing harm.
Deliberate distortions of the government's database will be deemed a forgery, according to the new amendments, hence a criminal act, as well as piracy.
The penalties for begging will also be tougher, in addition to penalties for those who would 'terrorise' others by resorting to violence or threatening its use.
The Cabinet also approved an amendment to the customs service fee bylaw on imports 2022. It standardises the number of service fees for a range of products.
It also agreed on the Jordanian norm-referenced ranking of 2021 and considered it a national document.
It agreed to give individuals who owe the Jordan Customs money the opportunity to pay what they owe along with any tax or accompanying fees provided they pay in full within two months from the issuance of the decision.
