Qatar - Ministry reminds about crab fishing ban from next month

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality has reminded fishermen in a circular about the regulations which will come into effect from February regarding fishing crabs in Qatar.

The ministry said that the objectives of regulating catching crabs are to preserve and sustain the stock and protect the crabs during the fertilization and reproduction period.

The Ministry sets a ban on hunting crabs using nets from February to April each year, but the cage method is allowed during the ban period.

The ministry specified that the fine for violations is up to five thousand riyals.

Regulations:
- Prohibited to fish blue crab using gill nets during breeding season
- Strictly forbidden to fish egg-carrying crab by any method during breeding season
- Crab fishing is only allowed by ships and boats licensed by Fisheries Department
