Muscat: Omani Ministry of Energy and Minerals signed strategic framework agreements with BP with the plan of delivering a multiple gigawatt world-class renewable energy and hydrogen plan by 2030.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the government of the Sultanate of Oman by the Minister of Energy and Minerals Dr. Mohammed Al Rumhy and BP's Senior Vice President for the Middle East Stephen Willis.

The Omani Minister said that the agreements are a significant step towards delivering Oman's 2040 Vision, in partnership with BP, adding that Oman will work to develop renewable wind and solar energy resources with global standards to generate clean energy for the grid and operate green hydrogen factories to meet local demand and export to customers around the world.

As part of the agreement, BP will record and evaluate wind and solar data on an area of 8,000 square kilometers, and the study will help Oman to make a decision towards building one or two renewable energy centers in appropriate locations as part of the development of these resources.

Renewable energy resources contribute to providing the energy required to develop green hydrogen, which will be exported to local and global markets.

Under the two agreements, the government of the Sultanate of Oman and BP will look into ways of cooperation in a number of areas, including the renewable energy strategy and sector regulations, in addition to establishing a renewable energy center and developing and qualifying the local workforce to work in this new sector.
