Over 225 civilians slain during protests in Kazakhstan


(MENAFN) According to the prosecutor general's office, the minimum of 225 people were slain amid upheavals in Kazakhstan as a result of protests prompted by a spike in petrol prices.

The bodies were moved to morgues across the region, according to Russia's TASS news outlet, which quoted Serik Shalabayev, the prosecutor's office's chief of criminal prosecution, on the following.

He revealed at a press conference, that at least 4,353 individuals were wounded, "including 3,393 members of law enforcement agencies." According to the Health Ministry, 175 of the victims died in hospitals as a result of their injuries.

In the meantime, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev withdrew the state of emergency in Akmola and Kostanay, raising the total number of districts that have restored normalcy up to ten.
