EU declines Russian efforts to ‘build spheres of influence’ in Europe


(MENAFN) According to the EU foreign policy ruler, the EU declines Russian efforts to “build spheres of influence” in Europe.

Josep Borrell informed journalists at a joint news session with French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian after the informal conference of EU foreign ministers in Brest, France “We remain open to dialogue with Russia, but never at the expense of our freedom, sovereignty, independence, and the respect of fundamental values.”

Borrell clarified that “the European security architecture was at the heart of the discussion” of the conference of EU foreign ministers held by the French position of the Council of the European Union.

The ministers urged Russia to calm down and restated the bloc’s unity with Ukraine.
