Amman, Jan. 12 (Petra) -- The Energy and Mineral Regulatory Commission (EMRC) on Wednesday launched a website to benefit from the subsidized household electricity tariff that will go into force as of April.
The website, developed by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship in cooperation with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the EMRC, is fully functional and ready to receive citizens requests as the sole channel to collect the subsidy, and the registration process is ongoing and has no time limits, according to Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmad Hanandeh, who was speaking to a joint press conference with Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, and EMRC Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Hussein Labboun.
In the conference, Minister Kharabsheh articulated details and mechanisms for benefiting from the subsidized electricity tariff.
Kharabsheh said that the plan to restructure the electricity tariff aims to direct government support to Jordanian household subscribers, temporary passport holders, and citizens of the Gaza Strip residing in the Kingdom. In addition to reducing the costs of electric on many vital economic sectors, in a way that reflects on prices of their services and goods provided to citizens and enhances their competitiveness and ability for sustainable growth and support the national economy.
Under the new rates, tariffs will be reduced on key economic sectors (commercial, industrial, hotel, agricultural and health), which will have a significant stimulating economic impact on these sectors, which the energy bill constitute a key challenge to their business, Kharabsheh explained.
Kharabsheh stressed that the majority of Jordanian subscribers in the household sector will not feel any change in the value of their bills, and those whose monthly bill is less than JD50 (consumption of less than 600 kWh) will not be affected, but the value of the bill may slightly decrease.
For his part, EMRC Chairman of the Board of Commissioners Hussein Labboun, announced the official start of receiving requests to benefit from the subsidized household electricity tariff via the dedicated website: kahraba.gov.jo.
