Doha, Jan. 11 (Petra) -- Prominent Qatari columnist and political commentator Muhammad al-Misfir has called on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to invite Jordan to become member of the regional grouping, saying the Kingdom's accession to the GCC is a 'security necessity'.
In a piece published by Al-Shraq Daily, the veteran writer said: 'The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is the Gulf's northern flank and an impregnable shield against all those who harbor evil against the people of the Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula'.
'The national and security duty requires us to make Jordan an integral part of the Gulf Cooperation Council. The Jordanian people are tribally and ethnically linked to the Gulf and the Arabian Peninsula,' Al-Misfir added.
Al-Misfer explained, 'It is true that Jordan has scarce natural resources, but there are creative minds in the fields of education, health, organization and administration,' calling on council members to support Jordan financially because this will benefit both sides.
