Doha: If you are still carrying the old edition of banknotes in your wallet or purse, you have just a few days left to exchange them. Banks in Qatar have reminded citizens and expatriates to exchange old banknotes as the deadline approaches near to replace the old Qatari currency. As per the banks, December 31 is the last day to exchange the old currency note.
“Kindly note that the last day to deposit your Fourth Edition (Older Version) Qatari Riyal Banknotes at our ATMs and Branches is December 31st, 2021,” Commercial Bank said on its official Twitter account, yesterday.
It is very convenient for the customers to exchange the old notes as the ATMs of banks are accepting both old and new currencies. Customers can also visit the bank branches to exchange old currency.
“December 31 is the last day to accept the old currency notes. If you still have some, we encourage you to deposit it through QIB Deposit Machines at the earliest,” said QIB on its official Twitter account.
All the banks have posted similar messages on their social media channels and have sent phone messages to the customers.
“We would like to remind you that the deadline to exchange and accept the old edition of the banknotes across all our branches and ATMs is 31 December 2021,” said Ahli Bank on its Twitter account yesterday.
In February this year, the QCB had announced to extend the circulation of old banknotes until July 1, this year. Later, this deadline to extend the circulation of old notes was increased until December 31, 2021.
“Kindly note that old Qatari Banknotes will be accepted until 31st December 2021 at any Doha Bank branch or cash deposit ATM,” said Doha Bank on its official Twitter account.
On December 13 last year, QCB had announced to introduce the '5th Series of Qatar Riyal Banknotes' from December 18, 2020. The new banknotes' design reflects Qatari tradition, Islamic history, culture, flora and fauna, and development in the field of education, sport, and economy.
“Please note that the deadline to exchange the 4th edition Qatari notes has been extended until 31 December 2021. You may also deposit them in QNB branches, ATMs, ITMs and bulk deposit machines during this time,” said QNB on its official Twitter account.
“According to the decision issued by Qatar Central Bank, QIIB would like to remind you that the deadline to accept and replace Banknotes with the fourth issue is until 31st December 2021. All old Qatari Banknotes will not be accepted after the 31st December 2021,” said QIIB on its official Twitter account.
