Amman, Dec. 9 (Petra) - The Eastern Military Zone, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department (AND), at Thursday dawn, thwarted 'synchronized, qualitative' infiltration attempts by a group of people to smuggle 'large' quantities of narcotics and weapons from Syrian territory.
An official military source at the General Command of Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF)- the Arab Army, said the rules of engagement were applied, which led to injuring a number of smugglers and retreating others into the Syrian territories.
After searching the area, 770,000 Captagon pills and 969 palm-sized hashish sheets were found, in addition to 4 Kalashnikov-type firearms, 9mm pistol and gun ammunition. The seized items were transferred to the competent authorities, the source added.
The source stressed that the JAF will deal with 'full force and firmness' with any infiltration or smuggling attempts to protect Jordan's borders, and prevent tampering with the country's national security.
