Qatar - Works underway to transform GPDNet into an organisation: Katara

Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has started taking initial steps in transforming the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet) into an organisation. This was after it was unanimously approved during the 7th General Assembly meeting of the network.

Cultural Village Foundation Katara General Manager and GPDNet President, Prof Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, said:“Katara has unanimously obtained a mandate from all members of the network to start transforming the network into an organisation, a project presented by Katara during the 7th General Assembly of the GPDNet, held in Doha between November 30 and December 2.” He likewise expressed his gratitude for the confidence the member states of the network granted to Katara.

It was noted that Qatar, represented by Katara, had unanimously won the presidency of the GPDNet for a new session, during the closing session of the said assembly.

GPDNet Secretary-General, Eng. Darwish Ahmed Al Shaibani, said:“Katara will transform the GPDNet through a road map that includes all the requirements for the transformation, which includes operational management, organizational structure, and strategic direction. In addition to other procedures represented by the internal system and organizational structure to the vision, goals and mission, stressing that transforming the network into an organization is an important step and an urgent necessity.”

Al Shaibani indicated that this new initiative was presented at the network's 7th General Assembly meeting through studies prepared by the Katara and put the final touches to achieve this matter, noting the discussions included making radical modifications in developing the network's structure and expanding the areas of cooperation. Taking all the proposals made by the members, especially with regard to establishing a transparent work mechanism, which would institutionalize the network and enhance its position, strength and effectiveness internationally by attracting more members and developing the work of the organization, positively reflected in achieving the goals of all member states.

The Secretary-General also confirmed the continuation of the network, under Katara's presidency of its current session, of the activity in cultural and public diplomacy, in order to create understanding between nations, support dialogue, education and cultural exchange and develop international cooperation. This is in addition to providing an environment of opportunities, innovation and sustainable projects development for all youth, and the consolidation of relations based on mutual respect by relying on the methods of cultural diplomacy such as arts, media, dialogue and exchange programmes. 

He also pointed out that the coming period will witness many achievements at the international level through the intensification of cultural exchange programs, conferences, lectures, exhibitions, and cultural and artistic performances.
