Turkish education spending increases to 4.5 percent last year


(MENAFN) According to official numbers announced on Wednesday, in the Turkish state, a sum of 270.9 billion (USD38.58 billion) Turkish liras was spent the previous year on education, increasing by 4.5 percent on a yearly basis.

Based on data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the portion of education in the nation's gross domestic product stood at 5.4 percent the previous year, decreasing from 6 percent two years ago. A year ago, the average USD/TRY trading rate was 7.02.

While 74.7 percent of overall education expenditure was made by public sources, the portion of houses stood at 20.2 percent in the previous year.

Nearly all educational activities the previous year were in students' houses instead of schools because of restrictions to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
