Turkey heads all EU nations in number of cattle for 18.16m


(MENAFN) Based on official figures, the Turkish state heads all European nations in the number of cows as well sheep.

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) and the European Union’s statistical office Eurostat, the country had 18.16 million head of cows during last year, with the nearest EU country in number being France with 17.79 million.

Moreover, the top nations in the bloc were, Germany (11.3 million), Spain (6.6 million), Ireland (6.5 million), as well as Italy (6.4 million), where the overall number of cows the previous year was 76.4 million.

Turkey’s total ovine number for last year stood at 54.1 million, and that involved 42.13 million sheep.

All of EU nations had 75 million, with Spain topping the count at 15.44 million, then Romania by (10.46 million), Greece (8.26 million), France (7.3 million), Italy (7 million), and lastly Ireland (3.87 million).
