Putin calls Biden for assurances during video call

(MENAFN) On the words of the Kremlin, Russian Leader Vladimir Putin called for US Leader Joe Biden in a video call that lasted for two hours for assurances that NATO is not going to increase eastward.

The serious assembly amid Putin and Biden was held over the increase of stress for Ukraine with a stable buildup of Russian armies beside its near frontier.

Additionally, the Kremlin stated "Russia is seriously interested in obtaining reliable, legally fixed guarantees excluding the expansion of NATO in the eastern direction and the deployment of offensive strike weapons systems in the states adjacent to Russia."

Putin and Biden in the "frank" and "businesslike" conference, talked regarding the application of the consequences of the US-Russia high-level conference which took place in Geneva in June 2021, a historic conference as both presidents gathered directly for the first time from the time when Biden took post in January.

It added "The importance of consistent implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level and the preservation of the 'spirit of Geneva' when considering issues of bilateral relations and other problems arising between Russia and the US was noted."
