Jordan - 30 COVID deaths, 6,392 virus cases recorded Tuesday

AMMAN — Thirty COVID-19 deaths and 6,392 virus cases were recorded in the Kingdom on Tuesday, increasing the caseload to 988,159, the government announced.

The new fatalities took the Kingdom's coronavirus death toll to 11,817, according to a joint statement issued by the Prime Ministry and Ministry of Health.

The share of tests returning a positive result, known as the positive rate, stood at nearly 10.42 per cent.

A total of 61,337 virus tests were also conducted on Tuesday, bringing the cumulative number of coronavirus tests administered since the outbreak of the pandemic to 12,511,426, according to the statement.

The statement added that 4,534 recoveries were registered in hospitals and home quarantine on Tuesday, bringing the total number of recoveries to 911,905.

The statement added that there are currently 64,437 active COVID-19 cases in Jordan.

A total of 193 COVID-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Tuesday, taking the number of patients currently receiving care for COVID-19 in hospitals to 1,190, the statement said, adding that 132 recovered patients have left hospitals.

On hospital capacities, the statement revealed that in the northern region the occupancy rate of isolation beds occupied by COVID-19 patients reached 29 per cent, ICU beds reached 49 per cent, while the occupancy rate of ventilators stood at 31 per cent.

In the central region, isolation bed occupancy rate reached 29 per cent, 43 per cent for ICUs and 22 per cent for ventilators.

The statement added that the southern region registered an isolation bed occupancy rate of 10 per cent, 10 per cent for ICUs and 8 per cent for ventilators.

The cases comprised 2,866 in Amman, 1,169 in Irbid, 642 in Zarqa, 536 in Balqa, 294 in Mafraq, 226 in Jerash, 185 in Madaba, 168 in Ajloun, 111 in Karak, 74 in Aqaba, 62 in Tafileh, 41 in Ramtha District and 18 in Maan, while no infections were recorded in Petra District.

The statement added that the total number of people who received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine has reached 4,196,889, while 3,793,423 have gotten their second shot.

The number of people who have registered on the vaccination platform has reached 4,539,254.
