Biden talks with European associates before video call with Putin

(MENAFN) US Leader Joe Biden contacted with main European allies before planned video call with Russian Leader Vladimir Putin on Tuesday.

According to the White House, Biden talked with French Leader Emmanuel Macron, German President Angela Merkel, Italian Premier Mario Draghi, and UK Premier Boris Johnson.

A report also showed "The leaders discussed their shared concern about the Russian military build-up on Ukraine’s borders and Russia’s increasingly harsh rhetoric. They called on Russia to de-escalate tensions and agreed that diplomacy, especially through the Normandy Format, is the only way forward to resolve the conflict in Donbas through the implementation of the Minsk Agreements."

Old stress over Russian unlawful capture of Crimea in 2014 was intensified by Russian-supported protestors in the eastern frontier region of Donbas, with a Russian armed buildup criticized by the West.
