(MENAFN) On Monday, Russia confirmed its first two cases of the newly-detected Covid-19 strain, Omicron.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, the nation's sanitary watchdog, the cases were discovered from the two individuals who came to Russia from South Africa the previous week.
Based on Rospotrebnadzor's statement, ten more individuals with positive coronavirus results are waiting in an observation hub for detecting their strain of the infection, without identifying the nationality of the individuals who got infected the virus.
On Nov. 26 the World Health Organization announced the new variant “a variant of concern,” and called it omicron. The WHO cautioned that the new strain has a huge number of alterations, few of which trigger worry as they could impact the efficiency of vaccinations.
