Iran blames US for chaos in Afghanistan and West Asia

In a meeting between Secretary of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations Abbas Araghchi and Mette Knudsen, the deputy special representative for Afghanistan in the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), Araghchi accused the US of a chaotic situation in Afghanistan.

Both sides on Sunday, December 5 discussed the current situation in Afghanistan, terrorism and the threat of ISIS, the security situation in Afghanistan, and the future of governance in the country.

As per the reports of IRNA-Iran's state media-, Araghchi said that his country was committed to regional approaches to settle issues in Afghanistan, the establishment of an inclusive government, the security situation in Afghanistan, and the issues of the border between the two countries.

“Iran is paying special attention to the situation in Afghanistan and for this reason, Iran's president has appointed special representative to Afghanistan.” Said Araghchi.

In the meantime, Mette Knudsen praised Iran's role in Afghanistan especially when it comes to hosting Afghan refugees.

Knudsen expressed hope to have further engagement with Iran on Afghanistan.
