Amman, Dec. 5 (Petra) -- The chargé d'affaires in the Embassy of Thailand in Amman, Chawadol Nipathannont, said on Sunday that Jordan is the second largest foreign destination for Thai students.
Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Nipathannont said that 600 Thai students are currently in the Kingdom, most of them studying Islamic studies, as Jordan is a moderate Islamic country with a good reputation in the educational sector, adding that a cultural exchange agreement will be signed between the two countries' ministries of culture to boost cooperation.
'Thailand is a main tourism destination for Jordanians, with about 12 thousand annual tourists, while 5 thousand Thai tourists visit Jordan every year,' he said, noting that the numbers dropped due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The chargé d'affaires underscored the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, supported by the special relation between the two royal families, noting that the diplomatic relations, established in 1966, have witnessed consistent growth in many fields.
The trade exchange is at $130 million per year, he noted, stressing the two sides' commitment to boosting the economic and commercial cooperation.
'Thailand sees Jordan as a country with many investment opportunities, attractive environment and distinguished geographic location that is the gate for markets of the whole region,' he said.
Nipathannont also highlighted the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) role in enhancing cooperation with Jordan, noting that 100 Jordanians have taken advantage from scholarships offered by the agency in economic, agricultural and other fields.
As for the Thai communities in Jordan, he indicated that 200 Thais are living in Jordan and enjoying good life style while working in various professions.
He reaffirmed his country's appreciation of Jordan's vital role in achieving peace and stability under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, noting that Thailand supports Jordan in ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the two-state solution.
