(MENAFN) Previous ruler of world athletics' governing body Lamine Diack passed away at the age of 88 on Friday.
Senegalese Leader Macky Sall posted a condolence message on Twitter, saying that with the passing of Diack, Senegal lost "one of its most illustrious sons."
Sall also stated that Diack, who was a well-known sports person, a former-mayor of Dakar and a previous leader of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), was a "man of great dimension."
IAAF is the previous name of the World Athletics, and Diack was IAAF leader from 1999 to 2015.
In November 2015, Diack stopped his World Athletics role after claims that he confirmed bribes to hide positive doping test results by Russia and let the participants play in global challenges as well as the London 2012 Summer Olympics.
