(MENAFN) Over 40,000 citizens in the Austria’s capital marched to the streets to demonstrated against the current lockdown and strategies to make coronavirus vaccination obligatory starting from the upcoming year.
The protestors collected in Heldenplatz, one of the historical places of Vienna, yelled slogans and fought with the police.
Vienna police stated that they positioned 1,200 personnel to manage the demonstrators and guarantee COVID-19 guidelines such as acting in accordance with the mask-wearing policy. A few of the demonstrators who fought back were detained.
On Nov. 22, in spite of demonstrations, Austria employed a 20-day nationwide lockdown to contain a rise in Covid-19 numbers. The new constraints involve individuals staying at home excluding going out for important facilities such as going to markets, pharmacies, or seeing a doctor.
