Bangladesh - Omicron: Passengers from seven countries to undergo 14-days quarantine


(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka: All incoming passengers originated/transited/visited Botswana, Eswatini, Ghana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe within last 14 days, shall have to complete a mandatory 14-days institutional quarantine at government nominated hotels at the passengers' own expense, effective from December 4.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh said this in a circular on December 2, adding the new guidance and instruction issued by the government of Bangladesh follows the outbreak of new Covid-19 variant 'Omicron'.

RT-PCR test, at passengers' own expense, will be carried out on 7th and 14th day of the quarantine.

Depending on the test result on 7th day of the quarantine, Covid positive passengers will be separated for further isolation to prevent the spread of Covid-19 and the Covid negative passengers will continue their institutional quarantine until 14 days.

Depending on the test result on 14th day of the quarantine, Covid negative passengers will be released.

Proof of the hotel booking in Bangladesh will have to be presented by the passengers during check-in at the departing airport in the countries mentioned above and the airline representatives must verify it before issuing the boarding pass for Bangladesh.

Airlines will have to provide passengers passport details and address and his/her contact number in Bangladesh to the Health Department.

Also, incoming passengers from all destinations, except children below 12 years of age, shall mandatorily posses RT PCR based Covid-19 negative certificate done within 48 hours of the flight departure.
