Qatar - Ministry of Culture joins Dhow Festival

The Ministry of Culture participates in this year's Katara Traditional Dhow Festival with diverse and distinguished activities and heritage, coinciding with the country hosting FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 and also with the celebrations of the National Day. 
Ministry of Culture Director of the Heritage and Identity, Sheikha Najla Faisal Al Thani said that the ministry's participation in the festival includes a set of events. Among it are: presentation of traditional crafts associated with the sea, where a group of craftsmen was chosen to practice their traditional crafts, represented in the manufacture of traditional ships. 
And the preparation of fishing nets, where they perform these crafts in front of the visitors, and provide an explanation to the public, emphasizing that these crafts are one of the pillars of the ancient maritime heritage.
She also added that the Ministry's pavilion at the festival also displays types of pearls and the book of pearls, as well as a video presentation of the most important types of traditional ships. Furthermore, it showcases several books issued by the Heritage and Identity Department.
Sheikha Najla Faisal Al Thani said her department's participation is aimed to introduce its efforts in collecting, documenting, and codifying heritage, stressing the keenness of the Ministry of Culture to participate in such events, in highlighting the Qatari heritage.
The 11th Katara Traditional Dhow Festival which is located at Katara beach esplanade will run until December 18, coinciding the Qatar National Day.
It is open from 9am to 12 noon and from 3pm to 10pm. On weekends, it will remain open until 11pm. And on Fridays, it will open at 3pm.
